Around the world - in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia - there are eight living species of bears. Some Native American tribes believe that the bear's purpose is to protect the forests. Unfortunately, over the last century the bear population has steadily declined as humans hunt and encroach on their habitats. It is worth contemplating that perhaps by saving the impressive bear, we may also save our wilderness. This stunning 2009 wall calendar shows these guardians of nature in their natural habitats.
